How bad could it be?  That’s what I kept telling myself as my piercer browsed through his collection of body jewelry that would best suit my clitoral hood.  I had been thinking about bedazzling my bits for quite some time, and finally in a flash of spontaneity I found myself spread eagle in a curtained cube of a space discussing my soon to be perforated pussy with Doctor Adam.

I had done a bit of research prior to the largely unplanned puncture job, and had a pretty good idea of what I had in mind.  There is a great deal of misapprehension concerning clitoral piercings at large.  Urban legends on each end of the spectrum imply either an uncontrollable state of sexual stimulation or disheartening desensitization.  While neither of these theories has been verified in detail, genital piercing is nonetheless a gasp-provoking topic.

There are quite a few options in the way of vaginal adornment.  The clitoral hood piercing is a popular choice for a couple of reasons.  The constant blood flow in the genital area causes the heal time for this type of body mod to be relatively brief.  Piercers advise that it takes about a month for the wound to heal completely, at which time the initial jewelry used for the piercing can be swapped out.  The skin that comprises the clitoral hood is generally quite thin, so the recommended wait time before engaging in sexual activity is about a week.  (My piercer was nice enough to point out that within a few days I could probably enjoy sex without irritating the piercing if I was careful and creative about it.)  But keep in mind, as any piercing is a glorified open wound, instance of STI contraction is heightened as your tissues repair, so stay safe.

Clitoral hood piercings take on one of two designs.  The vertical piercing, which is often done with a barbell or j-bar, rests directly on the clitoris and can be successful in increasing stimulation.  The horizontal piercing, which can use a captive bead ring or barbell is also popular.  Other vaginal piercings including the clitoral piercing (less common/allegedly more stimulating), the triangle piercing (placed underneath the clitoral shaft) and piercing of the labia (either the majora or minora/ a popular piercing to stretch) are options.  Talking to your piercer before deciding on a piece is the best way to ensure that the work you are getting done is best suited for your anatomical makeup.  We know how unique each vagina is, and for some, certain piercings are more practical than others.

Based on my personal framework, a vertical hood piercing was the best choice.  With some moral support from a friend and a ‘deep normal breath,’ the prick to my box was only an ephemeral moment of suffering.  In fact, immediately after, things down under were relatively ordinary.  As I exhaled with relief and my friend asked if I was all right, my piercer poked fun – “are you kidding?  That’s the best sex she’s ever had!”

Adam wasn’t kidding.  Maybe not the best sex, but the best morning after. Nothing a bottle of Dial can’t patch.  Painless prettified pussy.  Now, on to put the stimulation theories to the test.
