Sadly, many of the millennial generation are no longer familiar with the iconic 1986 erotic drama “9 1/2 Weeks.
The now 25-year-old film stars a pre-surgical Mickey Rourke and the beautiful Kim Basinger, both arguably among the sexiest films stars of the 1980′s.
The film follows a SoHo art gallery employee and Wall Street arbitrageur as they enter into a kinky and volatile sexual relationship. In perhaps the most memorable scene, Basinger’s character is blindfolded by Rourke’s character while he smooths ice cubes all over her body. Basinger also delivers a sizzling striptease to the Joe Cocker song, “You Can Keep Your Hat On.” Rourke’s character, however, eventually exhibits a controlling nature that is too much for the relationship to progress.
The film is most memorable for its sexual scenes. What woman does not want a man to shower her entire body with attention, while experiencing a tingling feeling all over with an ice cube? The element of surprise in the scenes with the ice cubes and blindfold provides women with the perfect idea for a bedroom fantasy, since women so often seek added “mystery” to prevent their relationship (or sex life) from becoming too stale and predictable.
The drawbacks, many women will agree, is when a man exerts too much control in the bedroom and is unwilling to relinquish that control to the women. As in “9 1/2 Weeks” what starts out as an erotic thrill ride for both characters eventually became a struggle for control in the bedroom. Who wants to have that struggle when you are about to commit acts of passion?
Guys, remember that is it okay once in awhile to turn the reigns over to the girl and let her take control of the bedroom situation. There is nothing sexier than a woman who is confident enough in her own skin to take charge of their man. After all, who wants a woman who just lays there like a log? Men may like to have control the majority of the time, but remember women have the desire to satisfy your body as well, providing you with an experience that will satisfy both your desires.
“9 1/2 Weeks” may not be a familiar film to many people now, but its legacy as one of the sexiest films of all time makes it an essential DVD for any couple looking to add a few extra sparks to their bedroom encounters.
